According to CNN news article "Sierra Leone starts nationwide lock down to stop spread of Ebola" they plan to lock down the entire country for three days and not let anyone leave their homes. Why are they going to do this? They think that this will help stop the spread of the fatal disease Ebola from moving throughout their country and the rest of West Africa. As of now there is no definite cure to this disease which is why many people have been infected by making any contact with Ebola patient’s bodily fluid. While on lockdown, 30,000 volunteers some of which are medical students, nurses and health workers, will go from door to door and explain how important it is to follow certain procedures to avoid transmitting this deadly disease. WHO (World Health Organization) says that the total fatality rate is up to 50% within the countries Sierra Leone, Liberia, Guinea, and Nigeria. Hopefully, this educational endeavor of sending volunteers door to door and explaining how dangerous this disease will slow down the spread of Ebola.
In my opinion I think this is a good way to stop the spread of Ebola through the western nations of Africa. However, the article states that in the poor neighborhoods of Liberia’s capital they attempted to have a lock down earlier in August but it failed and riots were the result. Hopefully this won't happen in Sierra Leone because their citizens have to take this disease seriously if they don't want to die in such a terrible way. I think that the President of these countries should have tried to contain Ebola when it was first discovered earlier in the year. There has been some help from American doctors and a few of them almost died due to not being totally protected from any bodily liquid of the patients.
