The new obsession with selfies has made the plastic surgery industry receive a lot more money within the last couple of years. Many customers will come to them wanting to fix what they look like so they’ll be picture perfect. 2012 to 2013 surgeons saw a 10% increase in patients wanting rhinoplasty (nose jobs), 7% in hair transplant, and 6% in eyelid surgery all because of selfies. It doesn’t matter if someone is famous or not, everyone is looking for plastic surgery and sometimes it’s just because of a selfie.
Although sometimes selfies maybe easier to take compared to asking someone to take the picture, it has also raised the amount of narcissism in people. No One likes a narcissistic person around them if all they’ll be doing is looking or talking about themselves. This new obsession with selfies has brought the significance of it to people’s eyes, and now everyone has noticed how badly it can be. In some instances a person can’t take a “perfect” selfie which leads them to taking about 300 more, and if the picture still has just one little thing wrong, in some cases it will lead to suicide. The thought of trying to be perfect is what is killing our generation.
Plastic Surgery has gotten so popular that on television there is a show called Botched where people will come in wanting a surgery. Sometimes it’s for the most unneeded things like Justin Jedlica, who has had over 100 plastic surgeries because he is obsessed with being perfect. Some of these procedures haven’t worked out as he would’ve like so he goes and does them again. A couple of them include cheek replacements, muscle implants, chin restructuring and nose sculpturing. As you can see trying to be perfect is very expensive and not worth doing.
