As stated by CNN about 2,440 students that were in seven different locations throughout Xian China took a national exam on October 18th-19th and were caught cheating with high tech gear. In all there were 25,000 people taking the exam to become licensed pharmacists but instead the students that were caught cheating will have to take the test again in two years. CNN collected their information from state media who said that the students were receiving their answers by radio signals that came through wire ear pieces or “electronic erasers”. The students that wanted to receive the answers through the radio signals had to pay $330 dollars. Jiang Xueqin who is an education consultant in Beijing said that their is a culture of cheating because of China’s high-stakes in the educational system.
I found it surprising how many students would risk their career by paying $330 and then ending up being caught. The fact that students who would have been getting a job dealing with medications and now won’t be for another two years don’t seem very trustworthy. Most pharmacies wouldn’t want to hire them if they saw that they cheated on the final exam. Pharmacists are important because you have to trust them in giving you the right medication to help you so I don’t understand why 2,440 students would do this.
